X-blade by finaformsora X-blade by finaformsora
The X-blade from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Made on commission for :icontheshadowcircuit:

It took roughly a month to make. Solid poplar with an mdf filigree. 75 1/4 inch long and weighs 15 pounds.

Here's the tutorial: quitefranklybuilds.blogspot.co…

Sorry for the repost, but I found a large tarp for a background and thought it would be better than cardboard. Plus the lighting is a bit better.

Amazing.. beautifullly detailed and amazing..

the Grill from the center has a beautiful lighting and with the added of metallic pain has completely brought a realistic blade look.

the handles cooperating with the yellow gold and the silver metallic has a well balance of communication.

the most facinating piece about this is the blade tip itself...
how it reflects both a violet contour mixing with the gold was soo amazing that it almost looked like the real effect from the video game itself.

The handmade charm is very cute and simple. but the idea of using a clay has it's draw back since it sometime can be abit muddy looking.
but overall I know it is the only source of income to make instead of using lazer cut technology.

There is no doubt in my mind that Kingdom Hearts is the most popular game that Square Enix and Disney have ever made. This replica of the ancient and legendary weapon that predates the famous Keyblade we all know is without question the best I have ever seen. The time and energy poured into making this blade, and the effects that go with it such as the spikes, chains, and the Keychain, are shown in how wonderful said blade turned out to be at the end of the project. The creator of this weapon shoul feel very proud for their acomplishments, and they deserve nothing but the best praise.

How would one use this? Like, at all? Where do you even hold this thing? As someone who studies swords avidly, this thing bothers me.

Well you hold it by by the middle between the handles, the gold part. I was barely able to keep it up with one arm, not to mention having to use both to lift up to that point. It really only weighs 15 pounds, but it's so top heavy because of the design that it's hard to hold up. Maybe if I were a fisher I could hold it better lol.

In the games, the character holds it above his head with his arm at a 90 degree angle which would make it a little easier to hold, but in the games keyblades are also somewhat magical and probably made of some ethereal material that's lightweight. I mainly made it as a collector's piece for the buyer to hang on the wall, but if they wanted to train the hell out of their arms to take it to a con it would be impressive.

Alright, I guess...? That's still no way to hold a sword-like object if you want to wield it effectively.

yeah...like I said.... it's from a game, it's top heavy, it IS able to be wielded though it's hard, and it's made to be hung on a wall for showcasing... If you have a problem with the design talk to squeenix.

I wish I could. They don't know how to design weapons AT ALL.

I mean it's a creative weapon. You could wield most of the keyblades, but the x-blade is supposed to be a legendary weapon, so why would it be easy to carry. A powerful weapon needs a powerful wielder

Yes you technically could wield them, but they would be about as effective in combat as a metal girder. They falsely call them swords when they are really somewhere between axes and maces. Edge alignment is nearly impossible because of the hand guard being on both sides, not that there even IS an edge. On top of that, there's a bunch of unnecessary material all over the weapon that just gets in the way.

what does a name have to do with the weapon besides itself? Have you ever held a keyblade before? You sound like that guy on youtube who tried to say the keyblade wouldn't work. Though it's called a keyblade it's used as a blunt weapon; you don't hit with the spiked side/teeth of the key, you hit with the backside. I have obviously made an held several keyblades and they all feel comfortable to hold and swing around as long as you're strong enough, like with a real club.

The unnecessary material IS just decoration based on the world it came from, but that doesn't mean it hinders the weapon. It just adds weight which takes us back to the strength of the user. You also have to look at the fighting styles of the character in the game to better understand some of the designs. The kingdom key for example is used by sora and mickey, one uses two hand (or one and a half hand) grip and the other uses mainly one hand. This keyblade is good for either style because it has more space between the handle and the guard. For two-hand grip, you grab the handle from each side of the guard, and for one handed you grab it from outside the guard, leaving it between your forearm and body. It's very comfortable, and with the teeth facing up in the air like they should be to hit someone with the blunt end, it feel very balanced. However for some reason, criticizers think the teeth go down which makes it feel unbalanced and confused.

I've had this debate several times. It's really getting old to explain it to people. Sure they could have used a different name, but why does it matter if it's creative and catchy for a game.

Do you think the x-blade will return in Kingdom Hearts 3?

hmm... In order for it to be forged there would need to be an even force of pure light and pure darkness clashing together. Since Xehanort plans to attack the seven guardians of light with his 13 of darkness, it may be reforged temporarily while they battle and master xehanort and sora will have to fight for control over it. Maybe it will constantly switch between the two of them as it decides who has a stronger heart resulting in either master xehanort's skill winning and opening kingdom hearts, or sora's connections to everyone giving him strength to send kingdom hearts away. If that happens, the x-blade will remain incomplete and possibly harm/destroy xehanort enough to defeat him.

Well, let's not forget, Ventus was originally used to create the x-blade, before. Since he lies in Sora's heart, could Sora create the x-blade? Sorta like how Zanza lied in the body of Shulk in Xenoblade.

I think that may be why they showed vanitas in kh3d (sorry about the spoiler if you didnt know that). Sora was sleeping and ventus was inside him, so i think there was some connection there.

Maybe Vanitas could be the true antagonist of KH3. Sorta like Zanza for xenoblade, or Ganondorf from twilight princess, like, how Zant was the main focus for one quarter, but by the end, Ganondorf was the mastermind.

Actually the squareness of the handle makes a sort of ledge for my fingers to grab onto to hold it in the right position.

All of my props are made on order or as a gift, so none of them are for sale. When I start casting props, I'll be able to reproduce them to sell.

IF I made a mold for the x-blade (which would be REALLY expensive), a plastic cast would cost around $800...maybe. I can't say for sure since I haven't cast the plastic for this trident I'm working on yet, so I don't have a basis for how much I'd need. I'm going to focus on casting my kingdom key after finishing some orders, which would help me make an x-blade mold if I decided to make one.

Vanitas could lift it with one arm, but he's an emo spawned from the dark side of the biggest piece of KH fangirl bait since Roxas who was floating in a void where said bait's Dive to the Heart was meant to be, so I'm not entirely sure what his deal is.

Still, I wouldn't have been surprised if you could only lift it with two hands.
