Hylian Shield Wip 1

Description

Since the last update, I've cut out one additional pine board, and two 1/8" mdf boards. I'm going to split the carving of the shield into two halves: the back flat back and the curved front sides.

The mdf boards will have the design from the back of the shield and and one of the pine boards will add thickness and strength for the handle and arm straps. I think 1" should be thick enough, and the sides of the this half won't be curved, but flat. After I finish the back side, I'll screw bolts into the handle and attach the front side. I'll probably actually re-cut the mdf board with design cut into it since it's a bit off.

The front half will use the remaining two pine boards, and will be the curved decorated side of the shield. After I shape this side, I'll hollow out the inside to make it a bit lighter, and make sure the bolts from the handle and straps have room if I don't make them flush with the board.

I commend your skills on making the Master Sword before me.... However I believe I am ahead in terms of the Hylian Shield... all I have left is to paint the Loftwing,  (Which will be the hardest thing for me to do by hand... 0-0; ), and mounting the support strap on the back...

I must say this though, I think you win when it comes to what type of wood to make it out of.... I made the mistake of thick plywood for the whole thing.... making it very heavy....
